Spodumene
Spodumene is one of the major lithium-bearing minerals in the world and also known as Alpha – type Spodumene, monoclinic crystal system, the crystals are usually columnar, granular or tabular. The colors are gray, green, emerald green, purple or yellow. It can show a gloss of glass, and the stripes are colorless, hardness 6.5 ~ 7, density 3.03 ~ 3.22 g/cm3. Spodumene is mainly born in Lithium-rich pegmatite, which is associated with quartz, sodium feldspar and microcline, etc. Crystals change color when heated or when exposed to ultraviolet light, and lose their sheen in sunlight. It will soon transform to Beta-type Spodumene upon roasting to about 1000 ℃, and have heat cracking properties. As the raw material of lithium chemical products, it is widely used in lithium chemistry, glass and ceramics industry, and enjoys the reputation of "industrial MSG".

Spodumene—Chemical Applications Grade
To convert Alpha-type Spodumene into beta-type Spodumene by roasting Spodumene concentrate under a certain temperature, of which products will be roasted again after being mixed with sulfuric acid, limestone, or other ingredients, then leach the output mixture with water to allow Lithium salts dissolve into the solution. The final products, Lithium Carbonate and Lithium Hydroxide, will be extracted from the solution through processes of impurity-removing, evaporation and concentration. And Lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide can also be easily converted into other Lithium chemical products, such as lithium chloride, lithium fluoride, lithium bromide, etc.

Spodumene can be used to extract lithium salts and further produce lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, both of which can be converted into various Lithium-ion battery materials, like lithium cobaltate, lithium manganate, nickel Cobalt lithium manganate, lithium titanate, lithium hexafluorophosphate, etc, and can also be converted into lithium chloride, lithium fluoride, lithium bromide, lithium base grease, butyllithium and other lithium chemical compound. Spodumene--Metallurgical applications grade
